I have an extensive background in competing as a long distance runner and as a fitness instructor. From early beginnings, when I represented my school in cross country events, to outstanding success at national off-road events; my overwhelming passion and mental focus has helped me to win many accolades and has earned me the respect of my fellow competitors.
I started competing in 1992 when I ran my first half marathon at Bath. During my running career, I have achieved a sub 2:30 Marathon and a few seconds over 1:10 for a half-Marathon.
After many years of gruelling road running, I wanted another challenge and "Off-Road Running" was the answer! Once I had taken the transition from road to trail there was no going back, I was hooked!!! The rough terrain, the need for endurance, the sense of freedom, and the mental focus needed to run fast over technical terrain- all these things combine to give me a real buzz.
I had to change my running technique, the way I moved over rough terrain and the way my feet touched the ground I moved on. All this eventually came together, which was hugely satisfying. These new techniques took time to master, but they made all the difference to my enjoyment of the sport, and my success as an off-road competitor.
Today I run my own business - Pete's Functional Fitness Club, and The Art Of Off Road Running - in Sturminster Newton where I train my clients to achieve their goals, whether it's to lose weight, gain improved fitness in preparation for an event or just to make the most out of the gym equipment. I also run highly-popular off-road running courses, where I teach the techniques needed to master the difficult and challenging art of off-road running.

Antonio Pinto, an amazing long-distance runner who won the London Marathon in 1992, 1997 and 2000 with a personal best of 2:06:36. In Pete's eyes Antonio Pinto was, in his day, the number one distance runner who will never be forgotten, a strong gutsy runner with an amazing finish, who never made mistakes.
James Cracknell, one of Britain's most successful athletes of all time, with two Olympic Golds and six World Championship titles. One of Pete's all time favourite athletes, Cracknell possesses true grit and determination with a strong mental drive; an athlete who doesn't recognise second place.
Bernie Shrosbree, a former member of the Royal Marine's elite Special Boat Service. Considered by Pete to be the best Extreme Sports Coach on the international stage, he was most recently credited with shaping up James Cracknell, Ben Fogle and Ed Coats for their race to the Antarctic. A world class athlete who will always bring the best out of you.
