Pete Roper - The Mountain Goat

Pete 'The Mountain Goat' Roper has an extensive background in competing as a veteran long distance runner and as a fitness instructor. From representing his school in Cross Country to awesome off road multiple events, Pete's overwhelming passion and mental focus has won him many accolades and has earnt him respect from his fellow competitors.

Pete started road running in 1992, competing in his first half marathon in Bath that year. During his eighteen year running career he has achieved a sub 2hr30 marathon time (London) and just seconds over 1hr10 for a half marathon.

After years of road running Pete felt he had achieved everything he had set out to achieve and made the transition to offroad events - from multi terrain and coastal trail running, to offroad marathons and ultra distance. Despite the difference in technique and endurance needed, Pete has continued to excel and is heralded as 'The OffRoad Guru' in the veteran class.

Today, Pete specialises in providing tailored training programs for endurance athletes. His inspirational coaching and training advice give his clients the competitive edge and performance they need to exceed their goals and achieve excellent results.

Inspirational Figures

Training and competing is decisively at the heart of Pete's life. However, behind his every success exists two significant criteria: a passion to achieving his goals and the influential athletes that have inspired him. These include:

Antonio Pinto, an amazing long-distance runner who won the London Marathon in 1992, 1997 and 2000 with a personal best of 2:06:36. In Pete's eyes Antonio Pinto was, in his day, the number one distance runner who will never be forgotten, a strong gutsy runner with an amazing finish, who never made mistakes.

James Cracknell, one of Britain's most successful athletes of all time, with two Olympic Golds and six World Championship titles. One of Pete's all time favourite athletes, Cracknell possesses true grit and determination with a strong mental drive; an athlete who doesn't recognise second place.

Bernie Shrosbree, a former member of the Royal Marine's elite Special Boat Service. Considered by Pete to be the best Extreme Sports Coach on the international stage, he was most recently credited with shaping up James Cracknell, Ben Fogle and Ed Coats for their race to the Antarctic. A world class athlete who will always bring the best out of you.
